Does shivering from cold give you muscle spasms?

Other night I came out of movie theatre in agony, they had AC so cold I was shivering and neck and shoulder mucles so tensed. Could not wait to get heating pad wrapped around neck. Truely in pain.

I am thinking I can NEVER go north north/west in winter again.

How do you deal with this?

I have been told to make sure to cover my neck in the cold. I live in Denver, so you can imagine. So now I wear a scarf. But yes, I heard that the cold tenses everything up.

    Absolutely,
This week I am suffering so bad. THe weather had dropped here and I was in tears the past couple days from teh pain. It's radiating up my neck to the back of my head, feels like someone is squeezing my neck and head!

I am thankful I am in Florida. It was instantaneous.
Freezing cold + shivers = spasm

oh yea, definitely.the thing is,when you start shivering, your muscles will contract, this can lead right into the spasms from hell.it does for me,always.i have sympathetic nervous system damage from SCI and my body is is in that constant state of 'fight or flight' any little thing sets of a hyper reaction in me down to the shivers and right into severe spastcity in my legs that will not go away til my body temp goes back up again.it really is horrid.but once your muscles start that contraction phase, well, you know.i happen to live in the frozen tundra of the north called minnesota and always have to keep my long underwear on and cover myself completely when going outside or even in my house depending on the indoor temp.just nasty.just keeping yourself warm as much as possible, espescially the muscles is about the only thing you can do for this trigger.marcia

Have any of you tried Xanax for muscle spasms? I suffer from them terribly and it has helped mine 80% of pain - relief.... I have MAJOR spasms in the neck, shoulder inbetween shoulder blades etc.
