Can loose disc fragments be spotted on a CAT Scan?

    Hello everyone,

After my C-spine surgery in Jan 2007 the surgeon said I had significant disc fragments on both sides which he removed. As I had the prolapsed disc for around 7 years I am guessing some fragments could have migrated out further down the spinal canal which might explain my bizarre neuro symptoms in my legs, etc..

I am seeing the NS tomorrow and I was thinking of asking if there is a scan to identify loose fragments, as they were not spotted on the MRI in my pre-op MRI.

Does anyone know if a CAT Scan can show loose disc fragments or maybe there is some other kind of scan for this. Thanks.

I would believe so because yrs ago my pelvis was cracked on both sides due to a car wreck. The doctor told me that it left some bone chips inside and the only method they had at that time was X-rays, it was 24 yrs ago. So that is how I assume he realized that and I do believe one of them ended up pressing down on a nerve causing my problems with my feet and legs.

I had migrated herniated fragment that was not spotted on MRI and was found during my surgery. I don't know if it will show up any better on CT than it did on MRI.
