    Cervical collar to correct posture?

    Hello everyone,

I usually post in the TMJ forum. I have had a very difficult year of hopping from one doctor to the other hoping to find some relief from my symptoms. I have initially been diagnosed with muscular TMJ but last week I was told by a very good orthopedic specialist that all my symptoms (tension headaches, pressure in the head, disequlibrium, fatigue) are the result of the straightening of the cervical spine (military neck).

He recommended a physiotherapist which I have so far seen twice (yesterday and today). She told me my neck and shoulder muscles were basically a mess. She worked on my neck and shoulder and also used friction massage on some trigger points on both sides of my head. These hurt so much to the extent I jumped everytime she pressed on one of them. They still hurt even now.

She also recommended I wear a cervical collar to make sure my neck remains in the correct posture while I am reading or working on the computer. Apparently, I have a very bad posture.

The cervical collar is quite uncomfortable but I have been wearing it for the past couple of days while I am awake.

Has anyone had a similar experience with the straightening of the cervical spine? Has anyone ever used a soft cervical collar to ensure the neck remains in the correct posture?

    Thanks in advance.

I found the soft collar to be a huge comfort. I'm three years post surgery and I'll put it on if I feel "unstable" in the neck. (I sit at the computer for over 8 hours a day.)
