    TENS after ACDF

I was just wondering if anyone knows if it is okay to use a TENS unit after ACDF. I used one for a year before the surgery. Since the surgery, I feel so stiff in my upper back all day, but especially in the morning. I didn't think to ask the doctor about it before, but I wonder if it would hurt rather than help. If I could use it, I think I could probably quit using pain pills and possibly muscle relaxers during the day.

so have any of you used one post op?

    Re: TENS after ACDF

I'm 2 weeks Post Op ACDF and I've been wondering the same thing. I've been using one for a little over a year as well and I was sure thinking it seems like it would help, but I don't want to try it if it's gonna cause me more problems. I called my doctor yesterday evening about it, but I didn't hear back before they closed, so I suppose I'll hear from them on Monday. I will be watching what others post here as well though, as I am very interested too. Hope your recovery goes well and thanks for posting this question.

    Re: TENS after ACDF

I know that using the TENS unit kept me off of pain killers for the year between my diagnosis of degenerative disc and the ACDF surgery. I really want to put it on and try it. But I guess I will wait to see if we get any other replies on here. If you hear back from your doctor, please post. I will call my doctor's office on Monday too and see what he says also. I know doctor have differing opinions on many things. Thanks for posting.

Hope your recovery is going well also.

I was actually prescribed a TENS after my ACDF. If your surgery is recent then just consult your surgeon to see if he/she is okay with using it now or can tell you when it would be okay.

Should be ok--don't turn it up so high that it causes muscle contractions--should be ok--check with your Dr--regarding placement--see if he has any restrictions. TENS increases circulation which is always good for healing.

    Re: TENS after ACDF

Pastor Robbie, I left a message for my doctor around noon. The secretary just called me back and told me he said that YES I could use the TENS unit! Yeah! I'm hoping it will work well enough that I won't need the pain pills (at least during the day).
