    Recurring Symptoms 9 Months Post-ACDF

    Hi Everyone

I was doing quite well for a while post-ACDF but have now started to experience new pains. I am quite stiff and sore in the neck area and am finding it hard to turn around, especially to the left side. I have pain in both shoulder blades and it is now radiating down both arms, but more particularly the left. The pain goes into my wrists and fingers but I am finding it hard to be specific which fingers as the pain is very diffuse - I know that sounds daft. (I remember being really distressed one time at a physio when I was in agony before my ACDF - she kept asking me specifically where the pain was and, although I was in agony, I couldn't tell her and she was getting very impatient with me!). I do have a little bit of tingling and numbness in the thumb and index finger of left hand. The pain is only at a level about a year and a half before my ACDF. It is worse in the evening and has lately been waking me during the night.

I have my travel sickness wrist bands out again. I found they helped the arm pain pre-op. I just positioned the metal ball on them into where the pain was greatest on the inside of my wrist and the constant gentle pressure on the nerve pathway did help dull the pain somewhat.

I am also getting a little headachy during the day and I am not generally prone to headaches.

As a year has not yet passed it could still just be 'things' readjusting in my neck but I am very concerned and a little depressed that the whole thing would appear to be starting up again - I couldn't got through all that again, although I will seek help sooner this time if it gets any worse.

I am sorry bobbyboo that you are not feeling well. did you get an appointment with your specialist? when was the last time anyone looked at your neck post-surgery - you aren't at a year mark yet, did they ever check for complete fusion? Besides a strain or something the things I would think this could be is your fusion didn't take and is acting up, or you might be having problems at a level around the one you fixed. About 9 months out from my first surgery I started up with more problems, which eventually resulted in a complete revision and extension of levels. My degeneration just kept on moving to other levels. When it starts waking you, it is time to see the doctor. I really don't think things are still "settling", you need an evaluation to see what is going on. Maybe they can give you a round of prednisone and see if it settles down, maybe you inflammed yourself doing something recently?
