fitness injury causing whiplash

i wasn't sure if this was the correct place to post this question, but my brother has recently been diagnosed with whiplash due to a combined fitness accident and many years of bad neck positions due to work related accidents and bad posture.

ever since his latest fitness accident he has had back and neck related muscle pain including muscle spasm and muscles compensating for other weak muscles. he also has a slight difficulty breathing, and difficulty swallowing and eating due to a tight throat. he also belches all the time which i'm sure is not GERD related because i have bad GERD myself and he never had these issues since before the injury.

after 3 months of no improvement with his breathing and neck issues he is told he may be getting reffered to see a muscular skelatal specialist at a clinic that specialises in whiplash related issues.

i have done a lot of research on how whiplash is normally treated and he has been trying very hard with physio, rest, and neck exercises for months and improving in almost every area accept the inner muscles and pain in his inner throat and esophagus, causing the difficulty breathing and swallowing. he also has pain inside his jaw which refers to his bottom teath.

he now says he feels umcomfertable talking as well.

i read that larynx and esophagus damage can cause these issues but i have failed to find anything on how that issue would be treated?

does anyone know how this kind of injury would be treated? can it be treated? i fear he will always be gaging and have difficulty breathing since it has allready been a few months with no improvement. i really hope he gets the referal and that the specialist can help.

Re: fitness injury causing whiplash

hello daveGB. Did they do an MRI?. I've been in a car accident and had a whiplash injury.
That has been 5 years ago and since then I suffer tremendously day in day out 24/7. The pain never goes away. I've been to many doctors and all said it can be the disks (2 bulging disks)or/and the muscles. Either way I suffer.

I don't have breathing difficulties but sometimes I have throat pain cause of the muscles tight on my neck.

There is nothing to do about whiplash injury other than take pain meds and muscle relaxants. But very important to do the MRI.

all the best for your brother and let me know what the doctor said.
