Central canal stenosis, severe c5c6c7 plus lower back.

Hello, I have been going Dr. to Dr. anyone that can help, please say so.I have severe central canal stenosis c5,c6 c7plus some disc herniation, mild effacement of spinal cord. Then lower back stenosis L3,L4 L5 severe, related to congenital spinal canal narrowing. It causes painful neck movement right hand numbness, that is from neck...Then the lower back causes r and l leg numbness, weakness in both legs, much pain in back. The nurologist says no one will operate, but I see others on this board that get operations?? The doctors give me pain pills and muscle relaxers but at times the pain is killing me. They act like it isn't. I don't want all these pils, but I don't know what to do? Any answers will be much appreciated and thanked,p. s. this is the first day I have looked at board.

Hi! It sounds like you are being fobbed off. Have you seen a nuerologist?. I do not believe surgery isn't an option there must be something someone can do. I also have spinal canal narrowing and had c4 c5 & c6 areas putting pressure on my spinal cord. In nov 2002 i had these reemoved and bone grat done. I was also suffering from numbness in the right hand and weekness of the legs. It feels like my slin is too tight for the legs. Since surgery however there has been no improvement but am seeing the specialist hopefully in july. This does not mean surgery doesn't work, it just hasn't for me. Anyway stick in there and stand up for youself and most importantly don't foreget to ask questions.
    Goodluck

    CarlSt,

I too have severe canal stenosis c3,4,5, with bulges and spurs from c2-C7....also thought to be congenital. I am going to be undergoing surgery on August 14th. A laminoplasty is going to be performed to relieve the pressure on my spinal cord. So, I'm not sure why your Dr. said so one would do surgery. Check with a NS or neurologist and try to get into a spine center if you can.

    Take care
