nerve damage from neck surgery, can it go away?

I have had two fusions on my neck, c3-4 and c4-5. C6-7 is bulging. The last time I saw my ortho he said that my fusions were solid. with the first fusion I was able to do everything on schedule and I went to work - every thing was ok- not great but ok. the next one he operated and he came into the room after the surgery saying that he was sorry that he didn't believe I was having that much pain but the disc was just rotten.- his words not mine. well I was pretty upset learning he went into this surgery with this attitude. I had a bad time in the next few days. The nursing staff was pretty rough and I had depression AND one nurse said I was crazy- I read the chart. I didn't say anything outt of the ordinary I just cried an awful lot. I asked the doctor if I could go home and he said if I was better tomorrow he'd think about it. So the next morning (4 days after surgery) I put makeup on and looked the best I could and he let me go. I have, to make a long story , I still have my soft neck brace and I have continuous problems, radiating pain down my arms, shaking hands, blurring vision, spasm, locking of my neck- it goes on.
I want to hear some storues of long term neck fusion symptoms say after 2-3 years. mine is close to four years post surgery. Plese? Do you have tinggling into the trapezius muscle? vision problems with spasm?
Has anyone been able to ignore the pain long ehough to build up muscle to get out of the brace? Please tell me your story.

    Hi Kathy <IMG SRC="http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif">

I am not long enough fused to give you an opinion on this but I do have the blurred vision ( I have considered getting the laser treatment to see if it will make them better) and I also have the shaking hands.. Thought that was an effect of the meds LOL

I do still have a symptom that is very worrysome... I get occasional violent shaking/jerking of my right leg, it goes into this and out of it in about a 2 mins... It can be very embarrasing and as I said very worrysome.. I hope the nerves repair themselves and it goes away or at least decreases in intensity.

As for the nurse who thought you were crazy? That's her problem Kathy, and if you were tearfull then I think it was more a case of bad nursing that you had and you had every right to feel low and tearfull.

Hope this finds you relatively pain free and happy my friend.

<IMG SRC="http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/heart.gif"> to you and yours,

    Davy
