    Question mri result so confused

hi, this is like a second language to me, i do not see the specialist until may 9th and im going crazy, and feel horrible can someone give me an idea of what its saying please...... there is two reports.... the first is

There is mild reversal of the normal cervical lordosis centered at the c5-6 level. No evidence of fracture. there is a mild marrow hterogeneity within the dens which demostrates increased T1 signal intensity and most likely incidicates a hemangioma, and there is no evidence of edema on the STIR images, mild disc desiccation and disc height loss at C5-6
there are slightly low-lying cerebellar tonsils, without evidence of tonsillar ectopia. 3mm left paracentral foraminal protusion with an associated annual fussure, mild narrowing of the central canal in the midline.and mild to moderate narrowing of the left anterolateral recess with mild flattening of the left anterior aspect of the cord, mild to moderate foraminal narrowing on the left with mild encroachment on the exiting nerve root.

if anyone can help i would really appreciate it.... this is the first test.....

    Re: mri result so confused

Rather odd report.... he goes from C5-6 back up to the cerebellar tonsils and then, apparently, back down into the cervical spine again.

He seems to think that your cerebellar tonsils are a little lower than normal, but not something to worry about, particularly since they are not ectopic (growing out of place), which can mean that they've pulled down through the foramen magnum ("big opening") at the base of the skull and into the spinal column. So apparently nothing to worry about.

The hemangioma I would leave to someone who knows more. May or may not be problematic. May or may not be treatable. May or may not even be there.

He then goes on to talk about canal narrowing and foraminal encroachment, etc, but doesn't say what levels those problems are at. Even the most poorly done reports that I have seen at least specify the levels.

I guess it will have to suffice that where he says the problems are "moderate" means that they might need further attention.

What symptoms are you having? Unusual headaches? Problems in your LEFT shoulder/arm/hand?

    Re: mri result so confused

im having neck and shoulder sharp burning pain, dizziness, blurred vision, horrible headaches, my arms feel weak, pain down my spine to my lower back, hurts alot cant get comfortable in any position, i cant keep my head down or up for long, if i do it hurts constantly and feels very heavy, there is also this, the thoracic spinal cord is grossly normal, there is a thin linear focus of increased signal intensity within the thoracic cord measuring less than 0.5 mm located centrally within the cord, suggestive of a persistent central canal,a syrinx is felt to be much less likely no mass is identified.there is also a 1 mm disc osteophyte complex asymmentric to the left foraminal region.

the paracentral foraminal is at C5-6 sorry

Note the repeated use of the word "mild". This radiologist does not really think he is looking at anything serious. Still, he does say that the cord is flattened and the nerve root (C6?) is "encroached upon". Both MIGHT be problematic, but he still says they are MILD.

I would note that any resulting symptoms should be LEFT-sided, though.

Again, I just can't comment on the POSSIBLE hemangioma.

Perhaps someone here can do better, but you really need to wait for that neurologist, I'm afraid. Your MRI needs another set of professional eyes looking at it.

Sinus infections can cause a lot of the symptoms you are having such as headaches and dizziness.

It sounds to me like you might have a sinus and/or inner ear infection. Take the meds and see if they help, then go from there. Hope this helps and hope you feel better.

Did the doctor you saw the other day say anything about your mri or just the ct scan? Did that doctor ever even see the mri results?

Never let a chiro crack your neck! It can cause the arteries in your neck to rupture and make a herniated disc and spinal stenosis in your neck worse.
