Unhappy riding a motorcycle with 2 cervical hernias?

    Hi everyone!

I need an opinion to make an important decision in the few days to come. I have two foraminal hernias one between the c3-c4 and the other between c6 and c7... I did't experience too much pain for a few months now and do physiotherapy...

Here's my problem: I'm an avid motorcyclist for thirdy years now... My doctor told me it was a bad idea to ride, another told me the same but a physiatrist told me it was very much OK for me to ride. I ride hard (trail bike) and I'm not interested in just riding around on a Harley (really not my tipe) so falls are pretty much a thing that happens. I wanted to ride with a brace. But, the specialists don't recommand riding even with the apparel.

So my question is: what do I risk if I choose to ride anyways?

I need to make my mind now as I'm supposed to pick up a bike that I bought (based on the physiatrist's positive input) this coming friday. I need to know if I just let it go and loose the 500$ down payment or buy it and keep it in the garage waiting for me to get better to ride it.

Main question what do I expose myself if I ride and fall?

Thanks for the much needed inputs.

Hi there, I'm not sure what a foraminal hernia is, but I too am a biker. I had a level 2 ACDF on March 11 and am worried about riding this summer. I have a street bike with a fairly upright position but am worried about neck mobility for turning. At this point I cannot imagine doing shoulder checks when crossing lanes or turning. It's painful enough just while driving. I really couldn't imagine managing a trail bike anytime soon. Best of luck to you! The warm weather this past weekend had me making the trip to my shed to just sit on my bike and crank it up. It felt so good but I have no idea when I will feel secure enough to ride. I wish I could offer you more advice but had to respond to a fellow biker! I feel your pain (the emotional kind!).

I don't know what your added liability is due to those two disks, but I'd say they are reasons #46 and #47 not to ride trail bikes...
