    Arrow Transverse myelitis

Can l5s1 severe stenosis cause transverse myelitis ? Been dx with this spine problem, and have bowel and bladder problems with burning numbness from the waist down . Could this be my problem. Doc says it wouldn't cause bowel and bladder problems. I can hardly walk or sit. Does anybody have any insight. Doc says I'm not a candidate for sugery?

    Re: Transverse myelitis

Transverse myelitis is an uncommon but serious condition that can be idiopathic or associated with a number of viruses and autoimmune conditions. It definitely does cause bladder and bowel dysfunction and you need to be under the care of a very knowledgeable, experienced neurologist for treatment and to explore the underlying cause of it. It can cause permanent damage to the spinal cord if not treated early and appropriately, so be sure to follow up with a specialist who has dealt with this condition before. The L5-S1 stenosis can cause similar stmptoms if there is compression of the cord. That is treated by a neurosurgeon. Which were you diagnosed with?
