Post A NS list for pre-op

    Hi everyone,

As most know by now, I am having my second ACDF on July 2nd. This one is for C3-6 and I am fused at 6-7 already. After this surgery I am facing another for level C7-T1. I thought it would be a good thread to list questions to ask your NS before surgery. I was making a list today and being the second surgery I was finding it hard to think of anything new...but for the first time cervies maybe we could come up with a list to help ease their minds. The selfish part of me would also like some suggestions that I may not think of.

The questions I have come up with are:
How long in the collar...this time I have hardware
How long until I can drive
How long until sex My DH liked this question...especially after 5 years of having a "headache"
    Throat soreness & hoarse voice
    Shouldar pain/muscle soreness
Pain meds during hospital stay and after
    PT or no PT
Suggestions for post op exercise (we all know walking is good but maybe some other suggestions)
    Length of hospital stay
    Breathing treatments post-op
What symptoms should you call the NS about?
How many of my type of surgeries do you do /year or /month?
What is your rate of complication?
What should you expect during the recovery period? What is normal recovery?
What activities will be limited during my recovery period? And for how long?
    Etc.etc.etc

Please feel free to post questions and I will try to keep up the list. I guess it will be like a "cut & paste" for pre-surgery appointments. With all the experience on this board we could have a great list.

If this has been done before....I am very sorry. I am still new here and having the pre-surgery gitters. Even though it is the second...it still scares the be-geepers outta me.

    Hugs,
    Suzie

    Great idea Suzie!
    What a go-getter you are.

I will be sure to return to this thread later tonight; it is nearing the dinner time here in good ol' Flagstaff.

    Until later,
    Catherine

    Hi all,
The sex question is interesting and I am also embarrassed about asking.
This is a great list and I am picking up some good questions for my NS for surgery 23rd July.
What about- how long before your muscles feel ok again? scar tissue?
