    Post irritation from collar

I have been in a miamij collar for 4 weeks now with 3 more to go. My shoulders, close to my neck, are so red and irritated. I am starting to get blisters from the collar rubbing. Any suggestions to relieve this?
I would call my NS, but we all know he never calls back..*LOL*

    Angel -

I wasn't required to wear a collar, but I have heard about people who took an old t-shirt (white cotton undershirt) and put it between them and the collar. Also, some baby powder or Gold Bond powder might be of some help. I think it might be the perspiration of the rubbing that is the culprit.

Thanks jdog! I have been putting powder on, but it is humid here and I am sweating bullets in this thing. I will try a cotton tshirt, and I also just looked up on the web what else I can do and found that some people wear a silk or cotton scarf under the collar. I hope on of these things work as I am miserable enough without this added problem!

I wore a silk scarf under my collar. I still got a raw chin so I put a gauzy sock type thing on the front piece and on the back piece of the collar. That seemed to help. Good luck.

Hi there - I found a cotton handkerchief worked really well. I also found (slighly embarrased to say this) baby bottom cream helped - the one I used had a local anaesthetic in it - I think it's mainly for nappy rash but it worked on my rash under my chin. (But don't tell anyone I used that will you????) http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/redface.gif http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/redface.gif

    hon, try some calamine lotion...

i got a bad rash, not from the collar but in the same area, and it worked wonders...

i had 4 levels worked on, including a corpectomy, but only had to wear my miami-j collar if i went outside of the house... soft collar for 4 weeks and no collar indoors for the next 2, only outdoors... NS explained that with the hardware i got placed inside me, i didn't really need any collar (except for going outdoors) but that he had me use them as a preventive measure because i live in a 2 story house and especially for the sleeping hours (like i slept!!!)

    hope you feel better fast!

    hugs

    sandra

I found my solution! I took out the thin shoulder pads from an old cotton blouse and stuck them under my collar near the shoulders. It's working great!!!!
