    5 months after microdiscectomy

Hi, I'm 5 months post op, Is they any light at the end of the tunnel for me?
I'm still in pain specially my right calf, feels like constant cramping.
I can walk ok, as soon as I stop I can't stand up straight due to my right leg feeling very tight.

It was a herniated disc at l5, s1 nerve.

Did you go through a course of physical therapy post op? Does it feel like cramping or nerve pain?

If the nerve was compressed for awhile or if a disc fragment broke off and nestled in by the nerve or something, you may have lingering nerve pain for a long time...12 months or longer.

Are you taking anything like lyrica or neurontin if it is nerve pain?

Have you asked your surgeon for instructions as to how to proceed?

Hi, I my last visit to the surgeon was in April, he said it could be nerve pain and told me not to do any heavy lifting again, which I've stuck by.
I'm seeing a physio at work once every 2 weeks and he helps it but only short term.

Only tablets I got prescribed was strong pain killers and anti inflammatorys.
Which I take on a daily basis, but don't help me to much.
I'm hoping it's a waiting game but I'm starting to have doubts now.

I know your feeling, I been there a few times. It's a long slow process, I find ice helps a lot and Lyrica works for me. I have good and bad days, but I don't let it get to me. I continue to push through and rest when it flairs up. Depending on how bad your nerves where pinched, dictates how long it takes to heal. I can honestly say that you will never be the same before your surgery, it will always remind you that those nerves were pinched. I say this 20 yrs after my first L5/S1 surgery and 2 yrs after a second L1-5 /S1 surgery. Yup reherniated the L5 a second time! I still have pain and nerve damage 29 yrs later. Build up your back muscles slowly and use the ice.Good luck to you!

I think I'll have to see my doctor and ask for lyrica,
When I first got my mri scan results they didn't even give me pain killers so after a few visits I've lost total faith in my doctors surgery.

I hope u get better soon I've had back pain about October 2013 which got worse n worse, it's been horrible ever since.
