Re: Does St. John's wort work for anxiety at all??

I can't say for sure but I don't think it does. At least it didn't for me. Then again, everyone's body reacts differently to different medications & herbs. I tried St. Johns Wort for depression & I think it helped me a little bit, but I also feel as though it was all mental. Like I was trying to convince myself it was working. I have anxiety too, and the only thing that has really helped me thus far is prescription meds. Paxil & Prozac or 2 good ones. Talk to a doc. I do hear you about the side effects, though. But for any major problem like social anxiety to subside, you need a major drug to help.

St. Johns wort mmmm!!! If I think back, all it did for me was give me more energy. As for my depression I didn't notice any difference at all. It was the very first thing I ever tried. That was years ago. <IMG SRC="">

Timeless Healing... Get it, Read it... It will change the way you think about yourself. ISBN-0-684-81441-2
Struggling makes a valid point ... I think" . . .
The herb helped me but , I think it was because I believed it would. Belief is one of the most powerful forces in the mind. It can have very serious effects on the way we feel about ourselves, our immune response is weakened by many forms of stress. What will help in this respect is positive reinforcement, which works but only if your prepared to keep a open mind and make a daily list of your priorities in life. Without a list life lacks direction and stress lies around every corner.

St. Johns Wort does work for depression!

Snow, think about what you said, while taking SJW it gave you more energy. When you have depression you feel low un-interested in doing anything, so if you felt like you had energy, then it was helping you.

SJW is a good all round herb, it's not just for depression, it's also an anti-inflammatory, analgesic and a strong anti-viral herb. It's great for mental burnout
conditions, such as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

Besure your NOT taking it along with prescription drugs for depression. Big NO, NO!

And when you buy it, don't buy the cheap brands.

Re: Does St. John's wort work for anxiety at all??

I suffer bad social anxiety but I rarely get depressed. I have been on SJW for almost 3months, 3*1.8grams a day. It has had no effect at all on me however I know people that take it daily and it works well for them but they do not have social anxiety. Positive thinking works but it is only as good as your ability to apply them.

I don't know if it works of not, but if you do try it, do know that one of the major side effects is that it renders oral birth control ineffective. So if you're a women on the pill, stay clear of this one!!!
