My daughter is grieving for her cousin

My 5 month old niece died from SIDS 8 months ago. My 4yr old daughter was only 3 when it happened but we visited my nieces frequently. My daughter cried for months after my niece died and since then has developed an obsession with babies. She wants to have a baby brother or sister very badly.

Is it normal for a 4 yr old to want a baby this badly? It is November and she thinks she will get a baby brother or sister for Christmas, she has even told my parents that she is expecting to get one soon.

Is there anything I can do for her?

I would reccomend grief counseling for her. There are trained professionals that deal with children and can help her cope and process what she is going through.

Re: My daughter is grieving for her cousin

I have 2 daughters (now 5 and 8) about 2 yrs ago they had a baby cousin ( their first one) die shortly after she was born...we talked a lot about her and now they have a new baby we still talk about the baby cousin that was lost..the girls know that she has passed but still talk about her like a part of the family..I would suggest just talking about the loss even though she is young she 'gets it'..
Best wishes
