    Hashimoto's & Swollen Lymph Nodes?

    Hi everyone,

This is my first post here and I apologize if it is repetitive. I did read through other similar posts before deciding to start my own thread. The others all seemed to end without any real answers, so I thought it would be worth posting my own.

I am 32 years old and was diagnosed with hypothyroidism about 7 years ago, then Hashimoto's a year or so after that. I had basically no symptoms at the time and was only diagnosed because my blood work at my annual physical came back abnormal. I began taking a low dose of levothyroxine and honestly felt no change at all--I felt completely fine. Over the next few years, I gradually began to feel more sluggish and my dosage was gradually increased.

A few years ago I began to feel a swelling in my throat and initially thought I was having allergy problems. After seeing a variety of doctors, including an allergist, I was told that I have a somewhat enlarged thyroid and some swollen lymph nodes, and that this was no reason to worry. A few years ago my endo sent me for a sonogram of my neck and told me I have some nodules but, again, nothing to be worried about.

Unfortunately, I am worried! I've now had swollen lymph nodes on and off for several years. At points the swelling is so bad that I feel like someone is squeezing my throat and it becomes difficult for me to swallow. I also suffer from shortness of breath and reflux at times. They are not necessarily painful, but constantly feeling like I have something tied around my throat is uncomfortable and anxiety-triggering. Every doctor I've seen confirms that, yes, I have swollen lymph nodes, but no one seems to have an answer as to why. It just does not make sense to me that this should go on for so long with no explanation and it is beginning to really affect my life (in part because I am beginning to feel very down and anxious about it). I switched to Thyroid Armour which generally helped me to feel better at first, but I am back to feeling symptomatic and my blood work is normal so my doctor will not adjust my medication

Please help! For anyone who has gone through this, was there anything that helped to reduce the swelling (eg, Advil, curcumin, ice/heat)? Any suggestions on what tests to ask for? I already have appointments with my GP and endo--any other specialists you suggest I see? I'm getting desperate here and worried that there may be something more serious going on.

Thank you for taking the time to read this! I hope someone can offer me insight here.

I was in a similar situation as yours and my doctor requested a test for EBV Epstein-Barr virus and it came back positive I had the swollen lymph nodes as well.
