    New doctor not listening

Hi - I had a great doctor for a few years but sadly she moved out of state. The new doctor doesn't listen. My current test results:
    TSH - 1.09 (.40 - 4.50)
    FT4 - .9 (.8 - 1.8)
    FT3 - 4.1 (2.2 - 4.2)
    Thyroglobulin AB - 10 (< or = 1)
    TBO Ab - 191 (<9)

Symptoms - tired, puffy eye, weight gain, irritable, foggy brain, lack of concentration.

I think my Armour needs to be adjusted up - thoughts?
Unfortunately, this doctor seems to go more by the lab work than the patient so I need to be sure I know what I'm talking about

    Thanks!

I think you might get more benefit from adding a small dose of Synthroid or other levothyroxine to the mix than to raising the Armour.

Your free T4 is very low, but your free T3 may be too high... Or on the verge of it, anyway. Most people do better with more balance between their free Ts. Adding more Armour would also raise FT3, and it would lower TSH to what your MD would probably find unacceptable.

But if your doctor is a 'numbers' man, he may not be open or knowledgeable to mixing two prescriptions, either.

Your new doctor sucks like most doctors if it's a thyroid issue. If he went by lab work correctly he would see that your free T4 is low and needs an increase. So like midwest1 said perhaps you just need to add some synthroid. My lab's reference range for free T4 is .9-1.8 and with 50mcg of Synthroid. I went from 1 to 1.2.

Thanks for the help! The 2nd doctor I had (the first was an idiot) was fantastic and I never had to understand my own labs; she would ask how I felt, look at the numbers and adjust my meds accordingly. She ran blood work every 3-6 months. This new dr. wanted to do labs only once per year and I pushed for 6 month intervals! Let's hope she improves or I can find someone else that "gets it".
