    Re: Thyroidectomy

Without a thyroid your body can't make the thyroid hormones it absolutely needs causing you to become severely hypothyroid. It sounds like you are already experiencing some hypothyroid symptoms. Look up myxedema coma or crisis to see what can result in severe cases.

Is there a reason you are on tirosint specifically? That is the most expensive form of levothyroxine replacement. Name brand Synthroid would cost about a quarter of that. Generic levothyroxine would cost about $10/month in the US and even less at some large chain pharmacies.

Your parathyroid does not produce thyroid hormones and has a completely different function.

You absolutely need some form of thyroid hormone replacement. If you are having a reaction to additives in one brand of levothyroxine and that's the reason tirosint was Rx'd then another manufacturer than the one you had a problem with may be better tolerated. Please talk with your doctor ASAP but please don't go without your meds.

    Re: Thyroidectomy

Read my Partial Thyroidectomy introduction to the forum. I'm scared not to take something. I have only one parathyroid and half my thyroid. My son in law has no thyroid. He takes Synthroid and says it works. I start Levothyroxin in the morning. I have calcium tetany (better to look it up) from low calcium caused by low parathyroid. As I said-the function of the thyroid and parathyroid are two totally different things. I ordered Thyrobid from ****** too.
