Question Ready for scan and returning to meds questions for Meep/Stardust or others???

I am post-thyroidectomy/RAI due to cancer. After being off my meds for over 6 weeks, I will finally be having my first one-year scan on Monday (hooray!). I have a couple of questions from the pros who have gone before or other knowledgeable folks.

How quickly should my doctor safely up my dose of Synthroid now that we have a pretty good idea of my dosage? I don’t want to straggle up over a 6-month period like I did last time, but neither do I want to shock my system too abruptly.

Right now I feel just awful (my TSH on Tuesday was already 57). I feel as though I have wiped a year of healing right off the board, and am kind of depressed about it. I also fear that I have new tissue growth as I have felt “full” in my neck and have a small bump ever since I stopped taking the Cytomel. I was not expecting to have any sensations in my neck if there is no tissue left . Of course, I feel puffy around my eyes and am retaining water in general, so I was hoping that was the cause. Has anyone else experienced this sensation when they were off meds or when their med levels were quite low??

Thanks and please say a prayer for me.

Ringbearer, I have no thyroid due to RAI, but with med changes and at different times I have felt the throat/fullness weird swallowing, etc. Once badly enough where they did some tests on my esophogus(sp.).I had to put it down to either stress or "phantom" feelings, due to left over nerve endings.(don't know if there's any fact in that, but there you go). I will pray for you. Try and stay positive. IWL

I just had my 1 year scan in May,I was on 200mcg synthroid before scan,My Dr. put me on 100 mcg for 2 weeks upped it to 150 mcg for a week and upped it to 200 after that then 6 weeks later had blood work. But now he thinks 200mcg is to much ( Tsh was almost 0 and he said thats to low so I am on 175 now and go in soon for blood work... Hope this helps.. Mars

Hi ringbearer,

I can't answer your questions, but I wanted to wish you luck with your scan. I'll keep you in my prayers!
