Users of Synthroid plus Armour, your experience!

Anyway who uses both together (synthroid and armour) please tell me how it worked for you. I am currently on 100 mcg of Synthroid after Total Thyroidectomy three wks ago. This was the same dose I was on before surgery. I tried Armour (1 grain) briefly after TT, but became hyper quickly. I am starting to feel very hypo on my dose of Synthroid and am thinking of adding 1/4 to 1/2 grain of Armour instead of upping Synthroid. I will have work tomorrow but right before surgery my work was already showing hypo levels on the 100 synthroid.

Please let me know how Armour + Synthroid worked for you.

What symptoms did you have on the Armour that you say were hyper? What were your labs like then?

I have been taking Armour and Unithroid (same ingredient as Synthroid) for a long time, and I wouldnt' trade it. I was initiially taking Armour alone as high as 3 grains at one point and symptoms kept coming back.

Adding in the Unithroid and balancing the T3 and T4 erased my symptoms and I will never go back.

Hi...I starting buzzing around like I'm on speed, not sleeping, heart rate and pulse very rapid. I have had those symptoms before when attempting to only use Armour. However, the surgeon thought it was from the surgery...he said every once in a while he has a patient go through a form of "thyroid storm" afterwards because of handling the gland. In order to save all my parathyroid glands, he has a technique where he lays the parathyroids aside and carefully shaves the thyroid gland until he gets it all. He thinks that all that squeezing and handling of the gland can cause a temporary hyper state in some patients. My levels right before surgery were TSH 1.94, FT4 1.16 and FT3 3.36. I won't know for another week or so what they are now. I've pretty well decided to try adding a little Armour to my Synthroid (100).

Thanks so much for the positive input!

Just to let you know, when I first started taking Armour,I would have slight hyper feelings, but I rode out the feelings and after about 2 weeks or so felt fine. This has happened EVERY time I upped my dose. I am now on 2 grains of Armour and 50 mcg. of Synthroid. Works for me. I feel better. I have blood drawn today, so I will tell you how well it works when I get results back. This will be the first time that I have had labwork since adding the synthroid.

Thanks for the info. Yes, please do keep me posted on your work. I bumped my synthroid down this morning and added a 1/2 grain of Armour. I figure I'll have to experiment around for a while to get the right dosage but at least my thyroid is out now. I had nodules that were trying to run the show with bursts of thyroid hormone so I could never get balanced. Anyway, here's hoping a combo of the two hormones will do the trick. Good luck with your labs!

I took my Armour down to 1.5 grain (from 2) and added 50 mcg. of sunthroid, but after a few weeks had to go back to 2 grains because I was starting to get hypo again. I guess you do have to play with it until you get it right.
