Does anyone know

If it would be okay to take the weight smart vitamins that contain the green tea in them or would it counter act with the thyroid? I am hypo/Hashi and am on 100mcg Synthroid. I am soo desperate to lose weight, this is soo depressing. I have known about my thyroid problem since last November and every time I go to the doctor my numbers are off so he keeps upping my dosage of meds. Also, I was gonna ask you guys,, I have heard all this talk about Armour med or taking a med called Cytomel along with the Synthroid. WEll, my doctor always just runs the T4 test and TSH. By what I have read , he should be checking both T4 and T3. HOw do I get him to do this? I go back for my checkup in Oct. and if my numbers are still off, I think I am gonna ask him to send me to a specialist. I am sooo sick and tired of this controlling my life and being overweight. I have felt a bit better on the 100mcg Synthroid,, ( I need a nap about 4 x a week rather than every day, lol) but still irritable a lot, can't shed a pound, my face is all broke out with tiny red bumps/pimples especially around the mouth and nose area, not to mention losing my hair,, ( I find it everywhere) I have been on the higher dosage of Synthroid (100mcg) for about a month now. Is that long enough for it to kick in? I don't know,, Im desperate here guys. Thanks for letting me ramble, I have had a bad day,,, I went shopping and trying on clothes and nothing fit,,, so depressing.

Re: Does anyone know

It takes four weeks before Synthroid which is T4 hormone converts to T3. Your body can only use T3 hormone. You can have more than enough T4 hormone in your system and still have the hypo symptoms because it's not being utilized by your body. Your problem could very well be that your body is not converting T4 hormone (Synthroid is T4 hormone) to T3 hormone. Upping the dosage of Synthroid will not make any difference in this case, which sounds like what you have since it has been a month already since the increased the dosage. This can be confirmed by doing a free T3 test. In such a case, the solution can be taking T3 hormone along with T4 hormone or Armour which is pig thyroid or bovine thyroid both of which contain t4 and t3 hormones as well as t1 and t2 which your thryroid makes and are not as important as t3 and t4.

You need have a doctor who will prescribe armour or cytomel with syntroid. Also, if your adrenals are weak, that will make the recovery even more difficult. Doctors usually don't even look at that, remember they go by what they were taught in medical school. There are some kinesiologists and naturopathic physicians who have a much better understanding of how to treat hypothyroidism, if you cannot find a medical doctor who will.

Also, worrying about not being able to lose weight is just causing you more stress. I would just concentrate on getting well again, without having to be stressed out about not being able to lose weigh. That will happen once you will have recovered. Your most pressing problem right now is getting well again. I wouldnot even be worrying about the weight problem and I would have less stress to deal with.
