I still didn't get what I needed!!
I had my new MD appointment today but ended up with an FNP. Don't get me wrong she was very nice. She looked at my bloodtests and said that my FT4 is right in the middle of the range. How do you argue with an FNP?

My freet4 is 1.14 range is (o.61-1.76)

What do you think? I told her that I feel tired and my hair is falling out.
Since I went off the PTU it has come up quite a bit. It just needs to come up some more.

I go back in two weeks for bloodtests. Maybe it will be normal by then.

Re: I still didn't get what I needed!!
sorry it didn't go as well as you had hoped!

I know sometimes if you keep calling and bugging them it might help!

I hope it works out for you, don't give up! I wish some of these docs had thyroid problems so they could know what we go through!

Re: I still didn't get what I needed!!
Boy that is for sure. When I go back for my appointment, I am going to give her some information about thyroid disorders.

Maybe she will believe me and maybe not.

I would like to go to a thyroid specialists. They always want a huge amount of money. That I can't afford.

I am not giving up.

Thank you

Betty this might help: Find the NACB's Guideline 23 from the National Academy of Clinical Biochemistry - print them out and take them to your NFP, they discuss ranges for FT4 and they might help convince her. This is an exerpt of the guideline:

The L-T4 dose should be increased (usually by 50 g/day) to maintain a serum TSH between 0.5 and 2.0 mIU/L and a serum FT4 in the upper third of the normal reference interval.

Betty what is an FNP? Some sort of nurse practitioner? What is PTU?
I'm not up on this abbreviations :o Sorry you weren't satisfied.

Re: I still didn't get what I needed!!
Thank you Nat I will definitely do that. Dogtired FNP i think means Family Nurse Practitioner. She is just like a regular doctor but she has to okay treatments through the doctor.

I hope that made since

Re: I still didn't get what I needed!!
I forgot to answer your question dogtired. You asked "what is PTU". It is short for propylthiouracil. It is an antithyroid drug used for suppressing the thyroid when you have hyperthyroid or Graves disease.

That is when the thyroid is putting out too much t4. You get nervous, increased bowel movements, palpitations, shedding hair, weightloss, high blood pressure. Just the same symptoms when your getting too much t4.

I was so glad to get off of that stuff. Sometimes I would get too much(in which my ignorant doc failed to tell me) and went hypo on it. :nono:

Sorry I missed the question

Hi Betty,

I was hoping for better results for you. I do so wish Dr.s would treat the patient's symptoms instead of lab numbers on a piece of paper. I guess patients don't matter. Makes me wonder if they are not in the business to make people feel better, then why are they in the business.

May God Bless and Keep You

Re: I still didn't get what I needed!!
Hi Bonnie, She did ask me if I did the basal temperature check and asked me if my hair was falling out. The doc never asked me that.

My t4 is right below the middle of the range. I read on the British Thyroid Organization that the t4 should be in the upper half or a little bit above. My tsh is okay. Hopefully it will go up. I am getting so tired of feeling like this.

Hey, I had another post for you. It says To Patience50. I am sure it is on the second or third page now.

Thanks for chatting with me. We will continue to do so hopefully. :D :D
