anyone take meds to prevent goiter...

Hi all, I have posted here beforem hope all are doing well.

I have diagnosed with Hashi's through a biopsy. I have an enlarged thyroid and a nodule on the left side. I am sticking with my regular dr for this because after reading all of the posts here she is the one who does the right tests and is willing to "listen". She said she will run my numbers every 3 months. Everything is right on the money for now( I compared them to your suggestions also). She said that I could try taking a small dose of synthroid now anyway to see if helps supress my thyroid from growing and to head off becoming hypo which she said can take years with hashi's or can happen right away. What do you all suggest? I am taking several meds already for pain control and anxiety, I am just nervous about this med especially and it's side effects. The only symptoms I deal with are coldness and sore weight isn't a problem and my hair is fine. I don't want to cause these to be problems either with this med.......please suggestions.......

I was on Levoxyl to shrink my goiter that was caused by Hashis. It worked at first but then it didn't work. I gave it a year and my goiter was just too big. I couldn't swallow too well. Had to have my thyroid removed.
Medication does help some people with the enlargement though. It will not prevent your thyroid from eventually quitting, just prolong the process. I hope that the synthroid works for you.
Good Luck,

Re: anyone take meds to prevent goiter...

Thanks so much for your reply. I am really concerned about taking the synthroid since I don't "symptoms" I need help with. I don't want some huge goiter, but without actual symptoms I don't know weather to wait a bit to start meds or what,
