Hyperthyroidism/Graves disease

Hi all,

I have a few concerns/questions. I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism/Graves disease in June of this year. I was admitted into hospital with possible stroke. But all tests showed normal other than blood work for the thyroid. I saw an endocronologist while in hospital. He checked my thyroid and it was enlarged, so he wanted me to do the thyroid scan and all was normal. Later after in Sept. I had more blood work and it was normal. I'm going tomorrow to have the t3 t4 tests again. My family doctor said that if it was off this time that he would put me on some meds for it. How abnormal are the blood tests supposed to be to have to be put on meds? My first blood work was only a little off, I don't remember what the levels were but I have an appointment on monday and I'll find out. One concern I have is that I have a MAJOR appetite all the time. I know you have an increased appetite with hyperthyroidism but this is ridiculus!! I'm full as can be but yet I continuously eat. Also, this intolerence to heat is really bothering me too. I sweat when others are comfortable. My palms stay sweaty. I always considered this appetite thing to my monthly cycle, but I realized I always have this appetite problem, just more so during my cycle. I also have this choking sensation off and on. Is there a reason for this or is this from the enlarged thyroid? It just feels like theres something in my throat and it gags me!

Does anyone have any information for me? I feel like I'm going crazy most of the time. These mood swings have got to go or my hubby's going to find another wife...

Thanks in advance for any advice/information!!

Re: Hyperthyroidism/Graves disease

can you post your labs? Seems like for even labs that are a "little" off you should be on meds. I am far from expert on thyroid disease but you sure have a lot of symptoms that the meds would fix.

Re: Hyperthyroidism/Graves disease

I had Graves and the symptoms you mention explain the ones that I had very well. Once the medicine started working(which took a couple of weeks to feel better) it was such a relief. Wasn't hungry all the time, quit running to the bathroom 5or 6 times a day for BMs.

Hope you can get some help very soon.
