Re: Does anyone know of a diet to controll hyperthyroid

Absolutely NOT! There are foods that are known to be 'mildly' antithyroid and foods that are known to be 'mildly' pro-thyroid. But there are no substitutes for your anti meds. I've had Graves for 9 years and use meds to control my levels. I've used Neomarkazole(Carbimazole) but I'm nursing my 4 month old so I'll probably be put on PTU. (Currently getting conflicting advice between the pediatrician and the Endo specialist...ARRHHGGG!) But you can't fix what we have with a diet. Things you can avoid are things that have iodine in them. I got very allergic to shellfish...looking back it was probably my first symptom. So avoid seafood and iodised salt. Things from the cabbage family can MILDLY help with symptoms, but are BY NO MEANS a cure or a way to get your levels down to a safe level. I read books, talked to 'naturapaths' and 'homeopaths' and they all agreed. There are holistic things you can do IN CONJUNCTION with taking medication can help. Yoga, learning to cope better with the stress in your life... (perhaps reading something by the Dali Lama). And post here to share your fears, questions, triumphs, knowledge and support.
Take care of yourself and let me know how you get on.

Thank you I just thought maybe there was a way to get away from having to take the meds, but I guess not. Hopefully it will just go away. I am new to all of this and it is pretty confusing to me how it happens if stress can cause it than not having stress should take it away ( right) anyway I am going to keep reading as much as I can thanks for your help.

Re: Does anyone know of a diet to controll hyperthyroid

You may need the meds. My bro. was very hyper in early-stage Hashimoto's disease. But he could not tolerate the meds. He also opted to not do the radioactive burn-out . He then needed a beta-blocker to protect his heart, and did use diet to help control the situation, but it was not ideal. Broccoli, cauliflower, tapioca & soy are somewhat anti-thyroid.

But the biggest help to him was avoiding iodine in salt, seafood, etc. ALSO discovered that avoiding dairy products made a big diff. Whether it was a case of iodine in the milk (iodine is used to cleanse the dairy cows' teats before each milking, and therefore gets into the milk supply), or whether he had antibodies to the milk that were flaring his thyroid, we are not sure: just that it made a diff.
