TSH & thyroglobulin levels with RAI for cancer?

Does anyone know what the TSH level is supposed to climb to before having RAI after a TT (with no meds) for cancer? Also, if you've gone through this, what were your thyroglobulin levels after TT, right before and after RAI, and how much time between all these things for a reference point. Thanks

    Gardener,
Each hospital/doctor will have a different TSH requirement. I think My hospital required a TSH of just under 30---but I was way above that.

In terms of thyroglobulin, mine was always undetectable/less than what the lab would register. I think they tested it 3 months after my RAI, just as a reference point, but I don't remember if they tested it prior or not.

Are you getting this done at a hospital? Unless your endo. works there, you might want to call there to get better info. than your endo give you. My doctor was clueless in terms of their procedures.

I don't know the range, but I completed my thyroid removal on Sept. 19. My first was June 15. My dose is only 75 mcg. It was 50 mcg after the first one. I will be going upto 100 mcg after my scan. My tsh is 14.43 and I feel every point thats over. My uptake scan is Nov. 29 and therapy I 131 is Dec. 6. As if shopping for the holidays isn't bad enough, now I'll have to drag my sorry butt out of bed to do it. Keep me informed of your progress and I'll do the same.

Re: TSH & thyroglobulin levels with RAI for cancer?

Nancy, Reece, thanks for the replies. My TSH less than a week from surgery was just over 8. I've now had a second blood test two weeks since surgery and my doctor (through his assistant) says I'm ready for RAI next week. He doesn't think waiting six weeks is necessary. Unfortunately, I don't yet have my numbers; but I requested the lab to send them to me.

I did think that my thyroglobulin levels were kind of high at 296 one week postop. I'll see if they lowered by two weeks when I get a copy of the report as I thought I read something about inflammation from surgery elevating them also. My endo is starting me with 150 of Synthroid two days after RAI.
