muscle 'pull' in calves - meds?

first, thanks for all who replied to my other post.

i'm posting this separately because the 'pulled muscle' feelings in the back of my calves (was just the right leg this morning) has worsened already today. and i'm getting really worried now what if this keeps up - what if it gets worse - its going to really be painful and hard to walk. i'm at wits end with this disease. i'm getting new problems every time i turn around!!!

latest labs show i'm in normal ranges but still not in upper 1/3 of t3 and t4. tsh was 2.64. i think i'm a little hypo still. i'm taking 50mcg levothyroxine. this was an increase initiated 4/22. could this be a side effect of meds now that i'm finally up to a 'stronger' dose? i think i've heard some people mention synthroid (though i'm on generic) gave them muscle problems?

i've been more hypo in the past and never had this problem. i dont believe i'm swinging over into hyper land because my energy is still down, heart rate is normal.

any ideas? thanks!

Hi Scoot,
Well, the first thing that comes to mind is did you do something you haven't done for a while - like mow the yard, lift or push a lot of stuff using your legs as a help - It is POSSIBLE, you just strained your muscles. Just walking a lot CAN do it if you are not used to it. I have been so sedentary since all this began last October that I am finding my muscles need retraining. If none of those type things have been done recently, then I would probably think it could be thyroid related - but I have no experience with it.

Here's hoping it is just overuse of muscles!

Re: muscle 'pull' in calves - meds?

When I was taken off thyrolar (t4/t3 combo) and put on synthroid I was crippled in just a few mo. I couldn't even walk up stairs. You might want to try Thyrolar or Armour. Another thing to look your ft4 and ft3 balanced, by that, I mean is one quit a bit higher than the other. That can cause symptoms. Also, too much cortisol can cause hypo symptoms. If you hormone levels are in the low part of range and your TSH is 2.64. then I would think you certainly need an increase in meds.

i wish it was from exercise, but believe me it isnt.

shmily - my ft4 is 1.06. ft3 2.6. would you say that one is much higher than the other?

i might try armour if things dont improve.

thank you
