Salty Taste Hello all, I've had this taste going on 3 years now. Does anyone else have this salty taste and Hypothyroidism? I am begining to believe the 2 are related. Any feedback is most welcome . |
Re: Salty Taste i used to get a weird sort of sharp salty taste vefore meds but that may have been due to to much sugar or my very bad teeth!! love from katpuirsxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx |
Re: Salty Taste Clippity, salty taste is definitely a sign of hypoT. My mother had that aggravation for years before she was diagnosed hypo. She saw no less than 1 dentist and 4 doctors to find out why the taste was always there. The final MD she saw before giving up told her to see a psychiatrist. It was about 4 or 5 years later that the hypoT was finally diagnosed, and research into the condition led me to discover that aberrent taste is a common symptom. So is burning tongue, which I had. Have you been diagnosed? In treatment now? |
Re: Salty Taste I am a treated hypothyroid patient, but have never noticed that symptom. Some other possible reasons for that salty taste are: Dehydration. Side effect of certain medications. Salivary gland diseases. Post-nasal drainage. Possible, but more rare ... nutritional deficiency, endocrine disorder or neurological disorder, such as epilepsy or migraine. |
Re: Salty Taste Hi Erin, Yes, I know all those other reasons you mentioned. None of them apply to me. Thanks for your post. |
Re: Salty Taste Hi Midwest1, You were the first person to reply to my question 3 years ago. As you can see I am still trying to find answers. I have been in treatment for many years now for the HypoT. I'm pretty much convinced now that HypoT and the salty taste affect some, but not all people. I am just one of the ones it does. I am glad that is my worst ailment. Thanks. |
Re: Salty Taste Midwest-I have had Hypothyroidism for 20 years and am taking Synthroid. Have had many tests. Drs. have no clue. |
Re: Salty Taste I am Hypo and have been for 16 years and recently have been having a salty taste. Don't know what it is. It comes and goes. Suppose it's one of those things we have to put up with. |
