    Question High Parathyroid Hormone

I had to have routine lab work b/c of gastric bypass, and I got the results today. Apparently, my parathyroid hormones are high/increased. What does/could this mean? I'm really curious b/c my neck's been really swollen & tender lately.

    Re: High Parathyroid Hormone

hey if you find out let me know mine is as well.
This is my story. A few months ago neck was swollen and bothering me, went to dr. and had a ultrasound of my neck. On the report it said possible parathyroid adenoma. Labs at that time were fine, but i was having hypo thyroid symptoms. I was sent to endo who took another ultrasound and told me everything was too small to biopsy and to get another blood test in 6-8 weeks. 6 weeks later get blood test and it shows tsh of 79 (very hypo), hashimotos and that was it. I was put on meds and symptoms lifted. 5 weeks later another blood test and this time parathyroid level was high, calcium was fine. Dr. then did vit d test and i was deficient. He thinks that is why my parathyroid is enlarged. So i am now taking vit d supplements 400 IU 3xs a day. There is so much info on the computer. ****** search parathyroid and you will get tons of info. What did your dr say????

Well, my gastric bypass doc office says the tests results are probably just calcium deficiency. My GP & rheumy don't know b/c I haven't seen them since I found out. My GP does know about the swollen nodes & gave me antibiotics b/c suspected infection. 2 weeks later, I still have the problem w/ more lymph nodes involved & increasing abdominal (i.e. possible liver, spleen, pancreas...).

    Re: High Parathyroid Hormone

well let me know what you find out because when i had ultra sound of my neck it showed my parathyroid glands to be enlarged and possibility of lymph nodes. My dr and endo checked my nodes and didn't find them swollen, but sometimes i feel like they are when my thyroid is enlarged and sometimes they are gone. It is weird. It did make me nervous when it showed up on my ultrasound. What did you mean by possible liver, pancreas?? Swelling there or lymph nodes??

    I'll do what I can.

I meant I've been experiencing increasingly severe abdominal pain that I think could be my pancreas, liver... I think it could be linked to my neck swelling.
