    Hypothyroid and skin

    Hi,
I'm new here on this board. I have had hyprthyriod for about 10 years or so. I'm 53 now. Does anyone else have a problem with their skin? My skin is so dry and looks so loose on my arms and my hands. The skin on my hands are loose and I can pull up almost about 3/4 of a inch of skin. Does anyone else have this problem. Is it normal for hypothyroid? Is there anything I can do about it???

    Thank you
    D

The skin on my lower arms looks very loose and saggy. It didn't look like that a month before I was officially diagnosed. It continues to look that way even though I've been on medication for just over a year. Whether it is normal or not, I have no idea. I'm 60 and even though I'm no spring chickin' any more - the rest of my body is holding it's own (all things considered) pretty darn good but I hate to look at my lower arms - that part looks more like 80. Oh well........

Dry skin is not something I've ever had to be concerned with (even being hypoT). Oiliness is my plague.

Hi. I am 31 and ever since I have been diagnosed with hypo, I have horrible dry skin on my right hand and around my elbows. My doctor claims it's not from the thryoid but I never had it before. I use a steriod cream, but unfortunately, once it clears, it always comes back..in the same spots.

Heels, my heels are so dry!

I think my skin has improved since I switched to Armour & started taking a vitamin pack. My face and hair were oily (even in my late 40's) and with in the last year that has improved greatly.

But my heels are still too dry (putting lots of lotions especially for heels helps but it must I must do it daily).

I have very dry heels also. I never knew it could be from my thyroid meds. I can put lotion on them but it seems to help a little. I go to a podiatrist that makes my feet look great and feel great again. It is 50 dollars a pop. What I am going to do after I see him is to have an occassional pedicure. It is cheaper and you get your toes polished and looking great.

I have learned sooooooo much on this board. Things I thought were old age and I had to learn to live with I am finding out could be due to hypothroid. Yet another piece of the puzzle. I have been saying for years I am getting "old lady hands" (i'm 51 now). Brown spots, saggy and wrinkles. I have not been diagnosed yet, but I will add it to my list of questions for the endo today.
