Multiple problems- could they be related?

Seven years ago, I began feeling like a had a lump in my throat. I was a smoker at the time. An ultra sound of my thyroid gland showed multiple small cystic nodules. I was told to try synthroid for 30 days and see if it helped shrink the nodules (even though my thyroid blood tests were normal). Have had no problems over seven years except the occasional feeling like the nodules grew and then shrunk again. No ultra sounds during this time. I quit smoking in May 2004. In May 2007, I woke one morning feeling dizzy, my throat felt constricted, and my left arm tingled all day. I had been running regularly for a year, so I tried going on a run to get circulation going, but just felt more dizzy. Doctor felt it was stress related and put me on Flexeril. CBC was normal. On September 9th, I ran a 5K and immediately my stomach felt like someone punched me there. I have had abdominal pain since. My doctor said my CBC was normal this time, too, and we re-ultrasounded my thyroid gland. Will get results on the 16th. Doctors says my spleen feels enlarged and lymph nodes are swollen in my neck (which I can feel). Can this all be related to my thyroid? What further tests should I expect, and does a normal CBC rule out anything serious?

    Thanks for any advice!!!!

Hi B4 welcome to the board, I also have the same problem as you with my thyroid and my TSh has remained within limits, Please dont except your symptoms as just being stress its easy for a GP to put everything down to stress and write a script. not all GPs have an understanding of thyroid issues and your health is important and could suffer as a result.

I have been lucky in a way that I have a GP that ran lots of tests and did not just put it down to stress. She came up with a number of things besides my thyroid that had not been picked up in the past,

You should expect the best medical care possible and if it takes multiple scans and blood tests to get to the bottom of your problem then insist on them. He should be giving you an ultra sound on your upper Ab and not just the thyroid if thats where you have the pain. your quality of life depends
on them finding the problem so please request that he or she follows up
on everything..........please let us know how you go.
    Cheers Ellie

Thanks Ellie! I will be sure to ask for more scans. I have really good insurance, and can go to any specialist I want to!

Sounds like Mononucleosis to me. Might not hurt to have your doctor test your Epstein Barr Virus (EBV) levels. You'll want to have your EBV IgM tested, your EBV IgG and possibly your EBV EBNA.

    Good luck!

    Thanks Lillie.

We actually did a monospot, which turned out negative, so I think that rules out Mono, right? I go back to the doc on the 16th, so hopefully we can get some further testing done.
