    Symptoms of hypothyroidism?

I'm 18, I've had these symptoms for three years (at least, perhaps longer). I've been unable to resolve them for reasons that I won't even go into, but my current prevailing theory is hypothyroidism. These are my symptoms:

Fatigue, physical and mental, possible exercise intolerance (could just be lazy regarding the latter)
    Very low sex drive
    Total lack of sexual pleasure/sensation
Mental fog, inability to concentrate, etc
On and off hoarse voice, particularly after talking a lot
Difficulty swallowing, lump in the throat
    Testicular pain/issues
Lack of facial hair, and weird hair growth elsewhere.
Unpleasant facial swelling, or gathering of fat (was NEVER problem before this)

Is this easy to test for? In other words, do I need to see a specialized, or could a GP (or even free clinic) do it? Is it expensive? If it's not, I might pay cash to have it done so I don't have to deal with my parents' insurance. Thanks in advance.

Sounds like a hormone issue, even if it's not thyroid hormone. Lab tests are expensive. Yes, a GP is a good place to start. I would suggest trying to stay covered under your parents insurance until you get insurance on your own. Whatever it is has been going on 3 years according to your post, so the treatment to correct or relieve it might take some time. You don't want to be coming out of pocket for medical expenses for years to come.

I was afraid of that. I guess that explains why my parents were so eager to blow me off and put me on anti depressants, but that puts me in a bad position. But anyway, thanks for the reply.

If you are close to Harborview Hospital in Seattle go there they have to take anyone and they are very good. You could start at the ER with your complaints. They also have a very good mental health community around the hospital area.

I live in Spokane, actually, but it's a big medical area itself. I've actually had an endocrine test done, it just didn't find anything. That's why it's so difficult for me to get another one. But the specialists are definitely around.
