Medication switched from Synthroid to Armour

I have been taking Synthroid for about 9 years. Twice now, for a couple different reasons, I was taken off Synthroid. Both times I lost about half the thickness of my hair. Last week I was put on Armour thyroid. I've heard a lot of good things about it. I was on 0.1mg when my hair quit falling out. Then they put me on 0.088mg and it started coming out again. I'm now on 30mg of Armour. I hope that's equivalent to the Synthroid dosage because I can't lose anymore hair! I'd rather get too high of a dosage and work my way down. I don't know how much I should take.:????

Hi Sabine77,
30mcg of Armour is half a grain. 1 grain (60mcg) is equal to approximately 75mcg of your synthroid.
That is a good starter dose. Best to start really low to give your body enough time to adjust to the direct T3 in Armour.
Good luck, Jaynie

1/2 grain of Armour contains:
19 mcg T4
4.5 mcg T3 equals 37 - 50 mcg of Synthroid.

I don't think 1/2 grain will be enough for you.

Re: Medication switched from Synthroid to Armour

1 grain of armour (60mg) = .100mg of synthroid
1 1/4 grain of armour (75mg) = .125 of synthroid

Please note the 1 grain of armour = 60mg is not how you convert the mcg of synthroid.

cheers
