How many of you had follicular cells on your FNA?

Just curious how many people have had follicular cells show up with your FNA? My endo said that 85% of fna's come back with follicular cells. It can be normal or begnin like in a goiter or adenoma. And at the same time there's a chance it can be follicular cancer too. So for those of you who had follicular cells present, what did your doc suggest doing? Remove it or watch and wait?

I posted to your post above on surgery. I too had a follicular lesion (which the two endo's I consulted both said the only way to be 100% sure what it is is to remove the whole lesion). I went for several months just monitoring and even trying to suppress my nodule. I finally decided I could not go on indefinitely watching my nodule/nodules, constant u/s, monitoring and doctors visits are not my style, nor is the even small chance of leaving a cancer in my neck so I opted to have it removed. See above post.

I too replied to your other post on surgery..............

My biopsy came back as consistent with a benign follicular adenoma.......etc.

I took my biopsy around to 3 dr's. Only one was adamant about getting it out right away. The other 2 were of the watch and wait mode. I had a friend that has the same thing going on and she ended up having cancer and had watched and waited so I said no way, it is coming out.

The top notch dr's I consulted all agreed, follicular cells means you take it out asap.

Follicular cells are cells that are normally in the thyroid.
What is important is the pathology report and how it reads
If it reads rare follicular cells, it is an inconclusive report
It should state if it is benign or not
