Anyone on Armour have a suppressed TSH?

Hi everyone. I have Hashimotos's. Almost as soon as I switched to Armour from Synthroid, my TSH has been below normal. I have heard this is not unusual and that the Free T levels are more important indicators of thyroid function. My Free Ts can stand some improvement. Trying to find a doctor who understands this seems impossible.

Anyone else on Armour with a suppressed TSH?

    Thank you!

I am taking Armour and my TSH is very low. 0.1
I think TSH doesn't matter anymore when you take Armour as long as your FT3 and FT4 are within range.
It took me 5 different doctors before I found a DO who treats by the actual thyroid hormone not by TSH.
Good luck and don't give up !

Hi mauz. Thank you for your response!

My TSH is only slightly higher than yours. I have heard that doctors like the one you are seeing exist, but I cannot find one. I have seen seven so far. It really is insane.

I can only hope (once again) that the next doctor can help.

Did you try a DO ?
Maybe people on this board can help you and recommend a doctor.
It is allowed to ask and post a doctors name.
I know it is so difficult and fustrating finding the right doctor, I often felt like giving up but trust me you will find one.

Anyone on T3 supplementation be it Armour or Cytomel will have a suppressed TSH. The natural of the T3 supplement suppresses the TSH artificially.

    Sincerely,
    MG

Re: Anyone on Armour have a suppressed TSH?

Hi mauz. I started with a DO, but he would only go so far. Then I saw a PA, a couple of endos, a couple of GPs, and a holistic doctor. The endos both reduced my meds, and I totally crashed. I really need someone who knows what they are doing. I will be out of meds in a few weeks, and I do not want to go back to the last doctor.

I would love a doctor recommendation for Nashville, TN if anyone has one. I will start a separate post.

Thanks for the suggestions. You are right it is difficult and frustrating. I will try not to give up. I am so glad you found a knowledgeable doctor. It gives me hope.

Thanks MG. Can this information be found through research?

Re: Anyone on Armour have a suppressed TSH?

I am currently on Cytomel (T3) only and my TSH is actually up higher than it has ever been. I have not been feeling well either and told my thyroid doctor (he is an ENT/Integrative MD) that I want to try Armour. I just picked up the RX and will begin taking it tomorrow while decreasing my Cytomel to totally go off.

I know my doctor told me it was very important with Hashi's to keep the thyroid suppressed.

My family doctor (an Internist) totally disagrees with that. I get so darn confused over who says this and who says that. Seems no one wants to agree anymore.

Good luck Ticker with finding a caring and competent doctor.

Re: Anyone on Armour have a suppressed TSH?

I am on 2 1/2 Grains of Armour and mt TSH is suppressed on purposed for my goiter ( now gone) and my 4 nodules...... My T3 and T4 are still in low normal range........ I just had my labs drawn on Friday so I should have those this week. I feel fine and have no side effects from a suppressed TSH and this is what my Endo expects......he goes by the T3 and T4 not TSH. My pulse is low at 54 and regular and I have no symptoms of being overmedicated.

I have had several opinions and only 3 out of 6 agreed with this treatment. I am pleased because my very large goiter is now gone and thyroid is actually on the small side now.

Hope this helps................ I will post my new labs when I get them...........

    Oleander

Re: Anyone on Armour have a suppressed TSH?

My TSH is a constant .02 after 4 years of Armour use. My doc rightfully ignores TSH altogether and doses according to free T4/T3.
My guess is that the Armour folks themselves could give you some guidance about the effect of their product on TSH. They also keep a list of physicians who prescribe Armour.

Hi Oleander53. I am glad your goiter is gone, this is good news!

I think it is amazing that you found three doctors who agree with this. I am hoping to find one! I do not have any hyper symptoms either.

I am glad you are feeling well! This is what is most important.

Re: Anyone on Armour have a suppressed TSH?

Thanks midwest! I will try to find some information to print out for the next doctor I see. I have seen some of the doctors recommended, but they did not work out.

I feel like I am getting close to optimal treatment. I don't understand why it is so hard to find a doctor who does not go by the TSH when it seems to be common knowledge it is unreliable.

    Wish me luck!

Re: Anyone on Armour have a suppressed TSH?

Yes. If you look into the function of Cytomel and armour.. even the drug inserts themselves should document that while determining dosing TSH is insufficient. They also list that the drug is a TSH suppressor thus checking FT3 and Ft4 levels are necessary to determine dosing needs. Do some digging on the actual medication and you will find many public access databases full of more information than you will want to shift through.

    Sincerely,
    MG
