Question Has anyone successfully switched from synthroid to armour?

I want to switch to armour from synthroid and I am wondering if anyone has done this with success? I have been on synthroid for almost 4 years and still have the same symptoms as if I were not on it at all. My labs are considered "normal". I have not been able to lose a pound even with counting calories and working out everyday for two months!! I am about to lose my mind!! Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

I know Midwest has been successful with that--I'm sure she'll chime in soon. I am just starting my journey with Synthroid and plan to give it a few months to see how well it works. If not, i'll probably be looking into Armour myself.

I have one aunt that is on a mix of synthroid and armour. 1 grain of armour meets her needs for a T3 supplement but not her need for T4 supplementation. She is about 40% lower in her T4 than T3. I am the same way. SO biologically we tend to need more T4 than T3. In addition to the Armour she takes 75 mcgs of Synthroid.

It is possible to mix synthroid and Armour if it is necessary and you can not tolerate cytomel. What are your Ft3 and FT4 levels? How much synthroid are you on? WHat is your T3 Uptake? These results will tell us if you are optimally treated and/or need T3 supplementation. The key to treatment is balancing your hormone levels any way you can and watching your FTs carefully.

If we learn by our mistakes, I am working on one hell of an education.

I have only been taking Armour for a little over 3 weeks now. I had been on Synthroid for 3 months before I switched. I was experiencing brain fog worse than ever when I asked my Dr. if I could give Armour a try. I started out taking 1/2 grain for a week, then 1 grain daily for 2 weeks, and now this week I am taking 1 1/2 grains. I am doing well so far, I can definitely feel an improvement in my ability to focus and concentrate. I know this is still a small dose and that most people take 3 grains when they are at their optimal level. It really takes time. I hope this helps, let us know what you decide to do.
