Hi there Topaz So sorry about your paralyzed vocal cord I am a fellow sufferer of bilateral vocal cord paralysis from a TT, so I feel your pain. Since it sounds like you just had surgery, the best thing you can do is.............rest............and find a good ENT (also known as an Otolaryngologist) for a consult. They are the specialists who can help you. You will also need to find a good speech therapist. They are very instrumental in the recovery process of the vocal cord.

Are you still in the hospital? Home? Has your surgeon or doc recommended you consult with an ENT? Keep us posted as to how you're doing. I'm new here, but have found wonderful support already. Vocal cords have been known to just heal on their own given...............time..............an d as Tom Petty sang "The waiting.............is the hardest part."

My friend, a public speaker, had one paralyzed vocal chord after her second surgery (first found cancer). She's a public speaker for a living, so she was nervous, she waited it out, and very gradually, without her notice, it returned and then she was fine. It took many months.

There are also people that have something injected if it's very serious and doesn't improve on it's own.

Thanx for the encouraging news the day after my surgery my ent said he could go back in and inject with gel-foam to assist with the repair, but I decieded to give it a little time before any further surgeries.I've been home for a week now and having some difficulty swollowing, aspriating some of my liquids and very careful with food.I'm hopefull it will repair on it's own if not that is one option.I'll keep you posted thank you again for your time.
