From Synthroid to Armour - Right dosage????

I recently switched from Synthroid to Armour. Can someone tell me if
this is equivalent?

Synthroid - took 0.175 mcg daily

Armour - Taking 2 grains a day of Armour now.

Re: From Synthroid to Armour - Right dosage????

Thats not how is done.

Most people need between 2 & 3 grains of Armour a day.

How to figure out if the dose is high enough?

Symptoms are lessened or go away.
The FREE T3 & FREE T4 are both in the middle to upper part of the 'normal range'.

Blood drawn early morning BEFORE you take your Armour dose (that day).

Ignore the low TSH.
25 years feeling worse every year on Synthroid & 13 months feel good on Armour Thyroid.

Can you explain the "grains" as a measurement? I am on Armour but I am at 120 micrograms.

Re: From Synthroid to Armour - Right dosage????

There are no absolute equivalents between Armour and the T4 meds, but 2 grains is the rough equivalent of between 148 and 200 mcgs of T4. So, yes... Your on about right the right dose. You may need to tweak a little bit if the 2 grains doesn't feel exactly right over time.

Forever... "Grain" is an older pharmaceutical term of measurement. One "grain" of Armour is equal to 60 milligrams (not micrograms, as you wrote). So, 120 mgs is the same as 2 grains.

Cool Re: From Synthroid to Armour - Right dosage????

I, for one, am happy to see a Doc giving a patient EQUIVALENT to T4 instead of starting them low (like I was )

I was on 150 mcg's of Levoxyl & 2 grains (120 mg's) of Armour is not enough.
