Confused about symptoms could it be menopause thyroid or both

    Hi
I was diagnosed with hypothyrodism in November 07 and it has never been controlled as yet.
Last check in June showed my tsh has been 8 and t4 as 15.5 I am now on 100mg of thyroxine.

I started with some really weird horrible sensations in April of this year which were mostly happening at night and still are although sometimes I get them in the day.
My symptoms have been Fatigue, nausea, feeling dizzy, and a general feeling of weakness in limbs with tingling and numbness in arms and hands although the numbness only happens at night and wakes me up, I know that I have not been lying on my llimbs so it seems so unusual and I feel that it is somehow connected to all my other problems.
Now I have also experienced no periods for 4 months and I have had what I think are hot flashes although they seem to have subsided.
I have had blood tests which seem to suggest menopause.
I also saw a endocrinologist about these horrible symptoms I have been getting as my doctor thought it possible that it could be causing my symptoms, the endo blatently told me that my symptoms were all down to the menopause and my blood tests suggested it, she said it was nothing to do with my thyroid.
I am on hrt at the moment to see if that helps my symptoms, and I can honestly say that I am still suffering from really bad fatigue along with the fuzzy feelings and tingling in my muscles and numbness at night despite having being on the hrt for a month now.
I am feeling quite confused and depressed at the moment wondering if these symptoms could be down to menopause, my thyroid or both.
Do you think I can trust my endos judgment she was rather abrupt in her attitude and totally dismissed the fact I am suffering from hypothyrodism.
I have heard that menopause and thyroid problems together can make the other worse and the symptoms of each can be the same.
Perhaps there is somebody on here who has found that once they hit menopause their thyroid symptoms were worse.
Sorry for rambling but I am just so confused on how I can start to feel normal as I am not sure what I am dealing with.

Hi zez, I hear you on the menopause!!! I'm so confused too with the "hormonal" issues?? I had a hysterectomy in my 20's, now 52, not sure when or how long my "meno" has been? no hrt, only for a yr after the last ovary removed. These hormones all work together! but getting a dr to recognize that is hell! they just shove you off as "its not the thyroid" go see your primary...pcp says see your endo, urgh I had a female hormone panel done and my estrogen was HIGH! go figure??? no parts left!???? so why?? dah, they don't know. But, I still believe its because one pc of this puzzle is not fitting in and is messing up the picture!!! I'd suggest you try to get your female hormones tested and adrenals. I'm not having luck with my endo testing adrenals, so I've resorted to using pro-gest cream in hopes of lowering my estrogen. Estrogen dominance has many symptoms like thyroid. Sure, its part of "aging" but if we're lacking something why let us slowly die off when there's something to allleviate it? I'm so fed up with doctors and their "tunnel vision", we had these "parts" for a reason! not just for babies! I'd like to yank the males doctors "testosterone" away and see how they would feel!!!!!

If your last thyroid testing was in June, and your TSH was a whopping 8, there is no doubt in my mind your thyroid is not in control. Were you given an increase in your thyroxine at that time?

Because your levels were so bad then, you should have been given an increase with a follow-up appointment for a recheck in 6-8 weeks. This should have continued until your TSH was near 1.

If what I'm getting from your message is that you haven't been checked in all that time, by all means insist on a recheck ASAP. You are apparently being severely undertreated. That endo is an absolute idiot!
