    Butterfly rash with negative ANA

I have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, being diagnosed in April 2008 by my endocrinologist. I developed a butterfly rash on my nose and cheeks this summer. Some days it is bright red and other days only pink, but has not gone away. It does not itch or hurt. My family doctor tested me last week for Lupus with an ANA blood test, which came back negative. He thought the rash could be caused by the Hashimoto's but is not sure. Does anyone know if Hashimoto's can cause this rash?

Butterfly rash across the nose and face is usually connected to Lupus. I am glad your test is negative at this time. Autoimmune disorders can develope rashes so there could be a connection.. Oleander

The doctor said it was not rosacia. He said it was definitely the butterfly rash or malar rash.

Butterfly rash can also be a side effect of hydrochlorothiazide, a common diuretic.
