    Tsh = 51

    Hi, Im new to this, and was hoping if I can get some guidance.
    I was diagnosed with Hashimotos on Friday and was started on Thyroxine 100mg. I was wondering as to how long before I will start feeling a little bit better.?

    Now I know why I was so tired, (and put on fifteen kilos)

    100 mcgs is a pretty large starting dose - normally HypoT medication is started with 25 or 50 mcgs (if one has had thyroid surgery and then gone HypoT one can often start with a higher dose). But if you can tolerate the dose (don't get shaky, nervous etc.) you may continue with 100 mcgs - if you do get jittery decrease the dose and start your medication more slowly. Often one can see improvement in a matter of weeks - sometimes it can take months (depends on many things). Finding the right dose for You can take months or longer (if your HypoT gets worse rapidly it may make it even harder).

    thanks for the info...
    My Gp has changed my antidepressant from Zoloft to Efexor..apparently hypothyroidism can be a side effect of Zoloft.

    *snort* Depression is one of the main symptoms of Hypothyroidism. If you have Hashimoto's it is not medication induced hypothyroidism.. it is autoimmune induced.

    My Aunts that had sublevel Fts were started on 50 mcgs of T4 and increased 25 mcgs every two weeks until they hit 100mcgs. When they hit 100 mcgs the MD held them steady for 6 weeks. This is an aggressive titration of thyroid medication, but safer for the severely hypothyroid patient.

    You should feel effects quickly. You may temporarily swing hyperT before dropping back into hypoT land on a starting dose of straight 100 mcgs. If hyperT symptoms manifest cut your dose in half to 50 mcgs and call your MD.

    Cysts can be a hypothyroid thing, but they are more common in Hashimoto's. You have Hashimoto's so finding a cyst/nodule is not surprising at all. You will just have to monitor it every 6 months to a year to make sure it is not growing at an abnormal rate.
