Lab Results

My family Dr ordered thyroid blood tests and they came back with in normal range. I have almost every symptom of being hypo, with a family history also. My Mom and sister are hypo. The antibodies are normal so it's not Hashi's. Here are the results.
FT3 309 Ref Range 230-420
FT4 1.0 Ref Range 0.8-1.8
TSH 3rd generation 2.31 Ref Range 0.40-4.50
I've seen 2 Drs and as soon as they look at my labs they say I'm fine. I'm not fine, I'm very sick. Extreme exhaustion, hair loss, consistant low temps, muscle aches, depression, constipation foggybrain and the list goes on.
To me it looks like my Frees are too low and my TSH might need to be lower considering my symptoms and family history.
I'm going to see my 3rd Dr on Monday, an Endo.
Any thoughts on this would be appreciated. Thanks. Remar

Re: Lab Results

Familial hypothyroidism is usually due to Hashi's. There are two tests for it, anti-TPO and anti-Tg. Were you tested for both? Even if they were negative, the tests aren't infallible and are false negative up to 20% of the time.

Yes, you're hypoT. The TSH above 2, combined with low-normal FTs seals the deal. Now all you have to do is convince an MD.

I'm in St. Louis and see Dr. Wessling in Webster Groves for thyroid. Previous to that, my ex-PCP refused to treat, and the endo who confirmed my diagnosis refused to prescribe anything but Synthroid, which I couldn't take. That's when I found Dr. W. Even though he practices as an "alternative" doc, he's MD'd, so insurance pays for my visits.

Please report back if you find your Dr. Right. I'm always looking for other options in case I ever have to find a new doc. I warn you though... endos are the least likely specialty to give you your diagnosis. Maybe you'll get lucky... I hope so!
