help before I see dr. about labs

Hello, I'm sure I have hypothyroidism. Family history and symptoms made me get tested. Here are my labs

T3 Free- 4.3 (range 2.0-4.8)
T3 Free Non-dialysis 4.3 (range 2.0-4.8)
T4 Free-1.4 (range 0.8-1.7)
TSH- 4.71 (range 0.45-4.50)
T3 Uptake- 22.5% (range 23.4-42.7)

Give me your opinion. I guess it's a good thing I had this tested before I have kids. What has your experience with this been? Thanks.

Re: help before I see dr. about labs

Your free T3 and free T4 are actually in a normal range, Ft3 is 82% of range and FT4 is up at 95% and those are considered good levels. Your TSH however is quite high and this is of concern.
Have you had your antibodies tested too? If you have Hashimoto's then your labs can be thrown off by the disease. I would look into getting your adrenals tested with saliva cortisol and an RT3 lab done because high range Free T labs with hypo symptoms can mean either adrenal fatigue or reverse T3 issues. I would also ask to have your ferritin, vitamin D and B12 levels tested as these are very often low with thyroid disease.
Good luck at your doc's!

Re: help before I see dr. about labs

Thank you. Should I be concerned with the T3 Uptake being low? I see the dr. on Thursday to discuss. I have just about every symptom, tired, depressed, constipated, cramps in joints/muscles, dry hair, brittle fingernails, etc... I really took the test to know I didn't have it, I hate thinking I may be on hormones for the rest of my life! Thank you again.

Re: help before I see dr. about labs

T3 uptake is a useless test. Best to go by the Free T3 and Free T4 levels. The "total" "uptake" and "index" tests are largely a waste of money.
With your symptoms and labs I would definitely explore Hashi's, adrenal fatigue and reverse T3 issues.
Nobody likes the idea of being on thyroid hormones but it sure beats the alternatives: continuing symptoms and very severe health consequences down the road, including heart disease.
