Hashi and arginine test

I'll try to make this brief :^)

Endo found very small nodule on thyroid, said not to worry he would watch it...thyroid is somewhat enlarged. He gave me Synthroid (75) but he never said Hashimoto's..however all of my symptoms point to that. I am often totally exhausted and have muscle weakness and joint pain. When i get up in the am, my face is puffy. I retain SO much fluid, but he wants me to quit taking Lasix because I have high uric acid.

Now Dr. wants me to do an arginine test for the pituitary--he says my Human growth hormone is extremely low. However my bill for the Dr. for just Four vists is almost $5,000 !!!!! My insurance only covers $1,000 for outpatient (stinky insurance, I know) so now the Dr. is trying to get the insurance to approve admitting me, since they will cover in-patient tests.

I haven't been back to the Dr. for about a month because I literally can't afford it. Has anyone had Hashimoto's AND a bad pituitary? Is that typical of Hashi? Also, if he decides to give me growth hormone shots, the side effects are water retention and joint pain...I can't take any more of either! (By the way, I have NO sypmtoms of pituitary tumor, so I am not in a huge hurry to get this test.)

Last question...what is a Hashimoto 'storm' and how long might it last?

I have a few 'pretty good' days in a row, and then I crash for several days--lots of weakness/ that a storm?

I am SO frustrated by this situation...but information is Power!

Re: Hashi and arginine test

Why was your doctor testing your growth hormone? Are you an adult? Or are you still growing?

My nephew had a deficiency, and once he got to full adult height, they stopped giving him hormone, it's not necessary according to his endocronologists to continue even if his levels are low.

I wouldn't be comfortable with this doctor, how did you find him? What med. school did he go to? Does he give you his own medications (that he profits from?)

Growth hormone can cost about 25 thousand dollars a year----I would get another opinion. This guy sounds suspicious. You can go to a regular doctor, or try another endo, but there are danger signs here.
