Swollen thyroid and neck tightness

I have a surguey for Jan4th to remove a suspicious 4cm nodule .Fromhat I have ben told the nodule will not cause me symptoms but I have been having swelling and tightness in my throat like I am being slightly choked. I also have a dwollen lymph node as well. My THS is falls in the normal range but is elevated since my last two, could I have thyroid itis of some sort as well. The doc says we will just wait until after the surg to do any testing? Any advice. It seems when my thyroid is acting up I so between hyper and hypo.

Re: Swollen thyroid and neck tightness

I had swelling and constriction from a 2.5cm nodule, which two ENT's said was normal---I was fine with it for years, but then it was being smushed behind a muscle, and that was how I finally found my nodule, which had no symptoms for many years (I've looked back in photos and can see it now, never realized it then).

If your doctors think that you can't feel a nodule that is size wise like having an extra thyroid lobe stuck in your neck---in a space designed for one lobe, then they have never experienced a tumor, and shouldn't be regarding you with disbelief.

If you are having surgery in 2-3 weeks, you should be developing a relationship with a good endo for afterward, but it probably doesn't pay to test levels and start meds now if the surgery is soon (other than to make sure you aren't super hyperthyroid and not well enough for surgery), because everything will change shortly.

Re: Swollen thyroid and neck tightness

I wanted to thank you Reece, you are just a wealth of knowledge here on this board and have put me at ease so many time through your posts. I am terrified as to what is going to happen if it is cancerous or not and how I will do afterwards. Your positive stories have been so wonderful for me and I thank you for answers my posts with honesty. I am sure I have a ton on anxious energy as well, I had my blood pressure read the other day and it was sky high,( I have never had high blood pressure in my life) after 10 min it was back to normal. Stress can cause so many physical symptoms. Funny thing I never had too many symptoms until I found the lump and now that it is getting bigger and I really notice I have more symptoms than you could imagine. The mind is a powerful thing.
