Post Thyroid dysfunction after cervical surgery

I have had a cervical fusions twice over the last 10 years. The surgeon used the front of the neck option and everything went well. I have recently been told my TSH is really high and have been on medicine for 6 weeks with little improvement. No one in my family history has had thyroid problems and I wonder if the thyroid could have been damaged during one of the surgeries? THanks.

Re: Thyroid dysfunction after cervical surgery

Hi, I had cervical fusion and later found the thyroid issues? but, seeing I have Hashimotos' and a pretty nasty thyroid, I don't think the surgery made it come on? My thyroid issues from the looks of things has been on going? but, my levles were always under 5 prior to the final 7.66. I'm awaiting a probabal surgery...again... due to another nodule and hurthel cells. I wonder though, all the x-rays, for the back issues and other x-rays contributed to this problem? You probably have had the gammit of x-rays? every time I've gone for follow ups for the back its more x-rays. Plus, I've had micro-calcif. on my breast and more x-rays and biopsy followed. I agree, too many x-rays can't be good for anyone! I'm concerned having to make the decision for thyroid removal and all the scar tissue in my neck already? I have to wait 2 more wks for my surgical appt. and its hell. ( My father had hashi's and never had any back surgeries) Who knows?
