Everything was going (reasonably) swimmingly well (with respect to bowel movements) when I added Cytomel to my Synthroid. Then over the course of a few weeks I felt gut movement (peristalsis) basically stop. I know that Cytomel is supposed to encourage the bowels, but has anybody experienced constipation with the addition of Cytomel?

Re: Can Cytomel cause constipation
When I was hyperthyroid, my bowels were more frequent but also with bouts of constipation. Maybe because the food doesn't have time to digest well, moving so fast through the digestive system.
With hypothyroidism you will have smaller, harder bowel movements, or none at all.

Re: Can Cytomel cause constipation
I'm aware of the general effect on bowels of hypo- and hyperthyroidism. My question is whether Cytomel can cause constipation. When I was just taking Synthroid for my hypothyroidism my bowels were moving well, but two weeks after beginning to take Cytomel they stopped. Really. Stopped.

Re: Can Cytomel cause constipation
Maybe it is just your body adjusting to the new meds. I went thru that a few times
as I've had to go through different brands/dosages. Cytomel works for a lot of people
but not for me.
