Thyroid hormone resistance?
I am insulin resistant and have type 2 diabetes. This means that my pancreas still produces insulin, but the insulin cannot be utilized.

I'm wondering if there is anything such as thyroid hormone resistance. Is it possible not to utilize available thyroid hormone? If so, how would this condition be detected?

Here is my other post:

Thanks for any insight,

Re: Thyroid hormone resistance?
The result of actually being unable to use thyroid hormone would be drastic and obvious.
You may need certain supplements to use the hormone, though, such as selenium.

Look for the supplements in this thread:

Re: Thyroid hormone resistance?
Tree Frog, that link was filled with terrific links, thank you very much. I will be busy reading for quite a while!

Here's my thinking behind my question: With type 2 diabetes, my body produces too much insulin. It uses some of it, but the glucose still builds up and is not metabolized. Taking medication helps to sensitize me to the insulin I am already producing but not utilizing.

I am wondering if it's possible to produce thyroid hormone and not be able to utilize all of it. I did not mean that none of the thyroid hormone was used. I was just wondering if the body could be resistant to using it effectively.

I am reading about supplements, but I am overwhelmed. I have to consider the thyroid, type 2 diabetes, and fairly severe hypertension. I'm having difficulty putting all the information together. Thanks for your help.
