Twitching, can this be?

Hi everyone
This is my first time in here be gentle with me.
18 months ago it seemed i had been cured of my overactive thyroid problem. In the uk the doctors use block and replace so they dont have to check on you so much.
9 months ago I started with tingling and numbness in my lower legs and feet that came and went. Also in fingers at night. They checked thyroid and told me it was ok. I didnt push it any further.
Problem now is i have started twitching anywhere in my body, more noticable at rest. I am now suffering severe anxiety because i think i have something alwful like MS or worse and doctors have refered me to a neurologist. This twitching is keeping me awake all night and the doctor has given me anxiety tablets that I have only started today and have not worked this evening (hence the time of posting)although have slowed down my heart rate. Doctors have taken more blood to see if it is my thyroid again and i am begining to hope it is.
I never had these symptoms before (tingling and twitching) DOES ANYONE THINK OR KNOW IF IT IS POSSIBLE FOR THIS TO BE MY THYROID AGAIN?
Many thanks Lizzy H

Re: Twitching, can this be?

Hi and welcome, Lizzy,

I personally had twitching and spasms at random all over my body when undiagnosed with hypothyroidism, so I believe it can be related.

I'm sorry you are having a hard time getting adequate treatment!

Re: Twitching, can this be?

Hi Lizzy H, and welcome. Have your doctors tested your blood mineral levels? Your symptoms sound similar to what happens when you have low levels of calcium (and perhaps magnesium and phosphorus, as they're all linked).

If you're also having heart palpitations, you may want to research copper & zinc supplements.

I've not been hyperthyroid, but I do have those types of "fibromyalgia" symptoms (pain, tingling, numbness) when I'm hypo. I had a lot of help with acupuncture, and the symptoms are now gone.

It's worth having the neurological check-up, but hopefully your symptoms can be resolved in an easier mannner.

Meep, or someone with supplement knowledge: can you provide more specific links and details?
